The analogy given by the speaker (I forgot the name, pardon, but he's the Department of Philosophy chair, I guess) was something about colonization. Countries such as Japan conquered nations because they lacked natural resources for them to be developed/industrialized; hence, they started to conquer countries to work for them so they could live the extravagant lifestyle they wanted.
Because of the lifestyle of Americans, Japanese, and Europeans, third world countries suffer. For example, the 9/11 bombing really happened (well, according to the speaker) because it's somewhat like the Middle East Asian countries were about to typically "explode" since it's the Americans who use their oil. So they sent airplanes to attack the Twin Towers,
9/11 Attack. Can it actually be a "mirror"attack? (Americans attacking themselves?) |
Now how does it relate to the topic of simplicity itself? It simply says that whatever we do, whatever our decisions are, we are creating impact whether to ourselves or to other people. Another analogy given was about the issue of climate change which is actually "enriched" by the first-world countries, and now was suffered not just by them but the entire world. How about Africa who releases the least number of carbon in the atmosphere?
This map from itsonehumanity.org shows the size of each country according to their CO2 emissions. The US is as obese as its inhabitants. Africa's so sexy, huh? |
If you've noticed, it seems that the CO2 emission of a country is correlated or linked to the development of the country. Noticed US, China, and Japan? How about Brazil, North and Central Africa, and Indonesia? At least India, Australia, and the Philippines maintain their proper diet.
Live simply so others can simply live: If only these first-world countries close the monopolization of resources and distribute it properly to the entire world human race, it's okay to blame ourselves about this global warming. However, it's not. It's the impact that these first-world countries created and we are the ones who pay for their crap.
Sir Gus ftw! :))
